Brodnick's Law

"Confusion is proportional to the square of the number of levels of indirection."

C ∝ I 2

Universally applicable and obvious once stated, Brodnick's Law remained undiscovered for almost 14 billion years prior to its first formal declaration by Donald E. Brodnick in the Late 20th century. Although it is likely that Confusion has affected bipedal primates for perhaps 200,000 years it seems that a certain level of technology must exist before the conditions for multilevel indirection manifest themselves sufficiently to make the law apparent. With the advent of modern computing machines, high level programming languages and, in particular object oriented programming techniques, a wealth of data are now available providing a fertile environment for continued research in this area.
